WHAT MAKES THIS HISTORIC?
The Yukon is a popular source-to-sea river during the summer
months--but during the winter, when most of the river is frozen solid
and temperatures reach -60 F, it's another matter. We aim to be the first team ever to successfully traverse the entire length of the Yukon River in the dead of winter from mouth to source.

BLOG: Pre-expedition - "Lack of Good Maps Means Summer Reconnaissance Necessary "
As Part of "From Ocean to Sky," the Yukon expedition aims to traverse--by boat or on foot--the entire length of the Yukon River, from its mouth near Sheldon Point, Alaska, to its source at the Llewellyn Glacier in British Columbia--a 3,700-kilometer (2,300-mile) journey. There are three conditions: (1) the writers must never stray more than a mile from either bank; (2) the writers must not spend more than $2,000 total; and (3) the writers must perform their assignment over exactly six months--from 15 September 2009 to 15 March 2010.
