Valkyrie, directed by Byran Singer

We weren't expecting much when we walked into the theater to watch Tom Cruise's latest flick, Valkyrie. Thinking back now, we're not quite sure why. But whatever the reason, the jury is out: we were wrong. Valkyrie rocked.

Seriously, though, how can a film that is about trying to kill Hitler, arguably the most-hated villain of the 20th century if not the most bloody, not hold the viewer riveted? This is gripping, edge-of-your-seat stuff, and the movie did not disappoint.

And yes, the moviegoer walks away with some fairly heavy moral questions floating around in his/her head, but what we felt, on top of all that, was a serious desire to visit Adolf Hitler's infamous Kehlsteinhaus, or "Eagle's Nest." The structure is perched high in the German Alps, not far from Berchtesgaden, on the top of Kehlstein Mountain. The Eagle's Nest is on a ridge, with steep vertical drops that underscore the height of the place--almost six thousand feet. Today the building is a restaurant that can be reached either by bus or via a two-hour hike.

Very good movie.
